Halloween Decoration from pallet scraps
I saw a picture on the Internet of someone who used scraps of 2x4's to make decorations. I was inspired by this but one problem.... We don't have 2x4 scraps laying around. So I was putting my crafty brain to use thinking of what else I could use that wouldn't cost anything, a pallet!!! We have them laying around to use to start the fire :) I also figured what other way to get the other half to let me use the saw ;) to cut them down to the size I needed. Below is a picture parade of what I did. Enjoy :)
Supplies:
4 Scraps of wood for the "people"
1 scrap of wood to mount them to
Acrylic paints in the colors you choose
Paint brushes
Glue gun
Stick
Corn Husk
First:
-I cut the pallet slats into 4 sizes about the same size each (I cut 2 longer pieces in half) and had a longer piece that I could fit all 4 smaller pieces on.
Second:
-I got out my acrylic paints that I had and started painting them. Can you guess what each one is going to be? I did paint the front AND back of each one (orange, green and gray/white) so if you saw it from behind it didn't look unfinished.
Third:
-In the one I saw the platform they were glued to said something but the pallets were not big enough to write anything on the edge so I decided to find another color that would match the Halloween theme. I picked deep purple!
Fourth:
-I waited for them to dry (I paint near the wood stove that heats the house so my paint drys fairly fast) and painted the faces on each one.
Fifth:
-I was trying to figure out what I was going to cover the last one with, the picture I saw used burlap and I didn't have any BUT I did have a box of old clothes.... I found this newborn shirt and figured I'd give it a whirl. I gut the edge off of it (I didn't take pictures of it cut up) and cut strips for each time I would wrap it around the wood plank. I wrapped each one around and glued it to the front and back of the plank until I reached the bottom. At this time I also glued the stick and the corn husk on the top of the orange pumpkin to make the stem.
The finished product :) Total cost - FREE
I free handed all of my painting and realized I really stink at painting but that wasn't going to ruin how excited I was about what I had just accomplished! You could just as easily made a template, used vinyl and cut it out and put them on. My Frankenstien needs some work but it isn't bad for my first time doing it :)
